From Set Building at the iconic Live Aid 1985, Wembley, to Project Manager of the award-winning UK Pavilion at the Japan World EXPO 2005 and most recently, Production Manager of the ATP Tour Finals Tennis 2013-2020 at The O2, London: Nigel has experience of the international Live Events industry from the inside out.

After qualifying with Advanced City & Guilds Carpentry & Joinery qualifications following a 3 year apprenticeship in 1982, Nigel found himself building scenery for West End Theatre, Films, TV, Rock and Roll, and Corporate Events at set building company Kimpton & Walker in London. In 1985 he installed the stage and revolving turntable for Live Aid at the old Wembley Football Stadium.  In 1989 Nigel joined Imagination as a Production Manager working on exhibitions, launches, conferences, permanent and semi-permanent installations, large scale tours and one off musical extravaganzas. In 1996 Nigel joined live events specialist Pacesetter as Technical Director where he was responsible for the day to day running of the company and the overall delivery of projects.  Over the next 5 years turnover and profits increased to a point where Bob Geldof’s company, Ten Alps plc, placed a bid to buy Pacesetter, with a cash and shares deal, agreed in 2001. Nigel became Technical Director at Ten Alps Events Ltd, where he was instrumental in winning and delivering the UK Pavilion at the Aichi, Japan, World EXPO 2005 for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, in a consortium with Land Design and the Natural History Museum.  Nigel project managed and delivered the award winning pavilion in Japan.

Having initially worked in the set building department on events, then progressing to production management at Imagination, to then handling his own clients and delivering projects in a truly holistic way at Pacesetter, and finally now as a freelance resource, the different roles and responsibilities at each level have given Nigel the perfect insight into the live events industry.  Roles and responsibilities have and still do vary. Sometimes the role is a straightforward project management role working with a set of already defined suppliers. On other occasions the role requires identifying a suite of suitable suppliers on the other side of the world, or producing production and infrastructure drawings, or building a full production team to implement the project, and quite often all of those things together.

Nigel is a freelance Project and Production Manager, delivering large and small live events.
